Dinghy Sailing
At Swansea Watersports we offer a wide range of sailing courses for both adults and youth sailors.
RYA Start sailing £140
This is the first step on the RYA ladder to become a competent sailor. The course is almost identical to the old RYA syllabus and doesn't require any previous experience. The course covers
- Sailing in a triangle
- Basic understanding of 5 essentials
- Rigging and Launching
- Basic sailing
- Capsize drill
The course is run on both single handed and crewed sailing dinghies maximizing your experience.

RYA Basic Skills £140
This course proves to be the perfect follow up to Start Sailing. This course is the next step in the RYA New Adult scheme, almost identical to the Level 2 on the old scheme. Students should have done the Academy Start course, or have similar previous experience. The course covers:
- Using the 5 essentials
- Rules of the road
- Advanced sailing theory
- Advanced Manouvres
By the end of the course our aim is to ensure that you are competent sailor

RYA Day sailing £160
This course is for those interested in coastal sailing or those who want to day sail. The course covers:
- Rope work
- Seamanship skills
- Spinnaker techniques
- How to right and inverted dinghy
- Basic meteorology
Try your hand at coastal navigation around the spectacular Swansea Bay and South Gower peninsular. Learn how to pre-plan your route and follow it on the water!

RYA Sailing with Spinnakers £140
The course is aimed at the competent Level 2 sailor who wants to learn how to use a modern asymmetric spinnaker and the conventional symmetric spinnaker. The 2 day course can be modified and split up either 1 day on each type of spinnaker or alternatively we can focus on one type – the choice is yours!

RYA Seamanship skills £140
The course is aimed at the competent Level 2 sailor. This module concentrates on specific boat handling techniques and should be regarded as an introduction to new skills, some of which may require further practice to perfect. The course includes:
- Advanced seamanship skills
- Rudderless sailing
- Sailing backwards
- Sailing in tight circles
And many more.
This course is the pre-requisite standard for Dinghy Instructor Certification, so those thinking of going for this in the future should consider this course.

RYA Start Racing £140
This is designed for the competent level 2 sailor who wishes to move on to club racing. Whether you are sailing single handers or high performance sports boats this is the course for you. The course covers:
- Starts
- finishes
- tactics
- Mark rounding
- Race rules
Ideally the student should come out of the course with a far better understanding of the rules and techniques of racing, and hopefully with an RYA Start Racing certificate.
